AI-for-Equity (AIE) is a nonprofit that empowers girls and women in Bangladesh and the US through AI technology education. We help girls and women develop knowledge and skills regarding AI applications and coding to improve socioeconomic conditions in societies experiencing inequalities in the tech field. Our goals align with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): promote quality education, achieve gender equality, and reduce inequalities within and among countries. We include discussion about AI Ethics throughout our courses to embed awareness of responsible AI in our students.

Problem

Women are under-represented in the tech field globally; Bangladesh and the United States (US) are no different. Only 2% of women in Bangladesh have foundational ICT skills (UNICEF, 2020), and only 27% of women in the US are STEM workers (Census Bureau, 2021).

Our Approach

AI technology, peer to peer collaboration, mentorship programs

We design courses to promote among young girls and women interests and skills in AI technology, mentorship program to undo social status quo and encouragement, and peer-to-peer collaboration among students (Bangladesh and US) to enhance tech and cultural knowledge.

Impact

We empower women to improve their overall socioeconomic conditions by reducing the STEM gender gap. We apply our experience in training, mentorship, and peer-to-peer interactions to impact the lives of young women in Bangladesh and the US.
